NHS Terms & Conditions

All dietitians regardless of who they are employed by will have for their employment a contract of employment which outlines the terms and conditions of their employment for that employer. Different employers will have different terms and conditions and pay different rates of pay for the work the dietitian does.

The dietetian should check their contract of employment for details of their terms and conditions.

The NHS

In the NHS the terms and conditions of employment are based on a nationally agreed Job Evaluation Scheme and universal Terms and Conditions known as Agenda for Change.  These terms and conditions can vary between Countries in the UK.

Agenda for Change

Agenda for Change is the title for the Terms and Conditions of employment that apply to dietitians employed in the NHS and the terms and pay rates only relate to NHS employment.

The NHS Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions Handbook and any amending circulars can be found on the NHS Employers website.

Pay

A dietitian’s rate of pay is determined by their employer and varies from company to company.

The NHS Pay

Pay in the NHS is determined by the Agenda for Change pay scales which can be found here.

Pensions

A pension is a fixed sum to be paid regularly to a dietitian, typically following retirement from service they having contributed during their working life to a pension scheme. In the case of workplace pension schemes the employer also contributes to the dietitian’s pension.

For any advice in relation to Pensions please consult an Independent Financial Advisor as the BDA Trade Union is not licenced to give pension advice.

The NHS Pension Scheme

Dietitians in the NHS can be members of the NHS Pension Scheme full details of which can be found on the NHS Employers website.
