Wendy is a paediatric diabetes dietitian and lead dietitian for the Wessex Paediatric Diabetes Network. Wendy is a triathlon coach and keen triathlete. She jointly leads a dedicated sports team for people living with T1D, and lives with T1D herself.
She is passionate about encouraging those with diabetes to enjoy being active and achieving their full potential alongside the condition. Wendy is excited to be starting her PGCert course in Sports and Exercise Nutrition in the coming year.
Nusrat is a healthcare leader specialising in diabetes care and education. As Clinical Director of Primary Care Dietitians, she oversees dietetic services across multiple primary care networks in England.
Her expertise in diabetes is reflected in her roles on the Diabetes UK Professional Conference Organising Committee and as Vice-Chair of the British Dietetic Association's (BDA) Diabetes Specialist Group. Nusrat also serves as Vice-Chair of the BDA's diabetes sub-group for sport and exercise, combining her professional knowledge with her interest in sport.
Elsie is an adult diabetes dietitian working in Norfolk. She has a specialist interest in diabetes, sports nutrition, maternal nutrition, women's health and research.
Elsie recently completed a MSc in clinical research.
In her free time Elsie enjoys the outdoors, music festivals and photography.
Alexis works as a Senior Specialist Diabetes Dietitian at Guy’s and St Thomas’, with her role split between Type 1 diabetes tech clinics and DAFNE structured education, inpatient diabetes, obesity management and lifestyle intervention services and group programmes for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
She has an MSc in Clinical Research and previously sat as a member of the BDA London Branch committee before joining this committee as Secretary. She has a keen interest in diabetes tech, self-management education, exercise nutrition and promoting physical activity.
She is a keen runner and enjoys cycling and open water swimming.
She is focused on supporting and empowering people living with diabetes to feel confident in engaging in sports and activities they enjoy, as well as also supporting healthcare colleagues to also feel confident educating and advising their patients in this area and ensuring they have the skills, knowledge and resources to do so.
Kinjal is a Primary Care Dietitian with a focus on supporting patients with metabolic diseases, especially diabetes. Working within a PCN, she collaborates closely with GPs and healthcare professionals to deliver tailored dietary interventions that address her patients’ unique needs. With experience across academia and primary care, Kinjal has developed a structured, patient-centred approach, emphasizing practical, evidence-based guidance to reduce disease progression and improve health outcomes.
Passionate about diabetes care, Kinjal also advocates for the role of exercise in managing chronic conditions. She brings her keen interest in sports nutrition to her work and, as a member of the BDA Diabetes and Exercise Subgroup, is committed to supporting both patients and healthcare providers in incorporating exercise as a key part of diabetes management. Her goal is to empower patients to confidently integrate physical activity into their lives, unlocking their potential for better health.
In her free time, Kinjal enjoys running, strength training, reading, and watching cricket and Formula 1.
Paula is a Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian working for the NHS in London. She has a specialist interest in sports and type 1 diabetes, behaviour change, and research. Paula recently completed an MSc in Advancing Diabetes Care and serves as Research Officer for the BDA Paediatric Diabetes Group Committee.
She is the author of a Spanish-language book on managing sports for adults with type 1 diabetes and has supported ultra-marathon runners in managing their glucose levels during endurance events. Paula is also a trustee of the DiAthlete charity (League of Diabetes), where she organizes camps for adults living with type 1 diabetes.
Originally from Costa Rica, Paula enjoys hiking, beach visits in her home country, and dancing.
Penny is a Diabetes Dietitian specialist in Insulin pumps.
She has a PgCert in Exercise and Nutrition. She has previously run several diabetes and exercise groups. She loves running and has completed a few marathons and on Ironman distance triathlon. She is excited to be a part of this sub-group. She hopes that by improving access to information it will enable health care professionals to support individuals living with diabetes to take part in any activities they choose.
Madeline is a specialist diabetes dietitian working in the NI Regional Insulin Pump Service. Her main role involves supporting people on their new or continued insulin pump journey.
Outside of work she enjoys Gaelic Football, Running, Cycling, Hiking, and CrossFit.
She recognises not all diabetes centres have the resources to support patients in their sports and exercise journeys and wants to improve this. She hopes to help people living with type 1 diabetes feel empowered to exercise, whatever their ability.
