Jon Bateman, the founder and Performance Nutritionist of the Endurance Academy.

I am a Registered Performance Nutritionist (SENR). I have an MRes in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Northumbria and a Post Graduate Diploma in Performance Nutrition from the Institute of Performance Nutrition (IOPN).

I work with a wide range of clients including athletes and equally those from the non athletic population. I have a vast amount of experience working with athletes in aiding performance, but also managing weight loss/gain, IBS, women in and around the menopause and experience working with younger athletes in and around the academy age group (16-20 years of age).

I am very flexible within my working style, working within a clinical setting and also remotely as and when needed. Each and every client has their own specific need and I feel both options can work for everyone and will meet your needs as a client.  I currently split my time working between both the UK (Newcastle) and in Italy (Macerata).

I currently lecture part time on the University of Sunderland’s BSc Sports Science program, teaching Nutrition and Metabolism as well as a UK Anti-Doping Advisor and ISAK Level 1 Technician.

Within research, my main areas of interest are performance improvements within endurance sport. I have published my MRes thesis within the 'European Journal of Applied Physiology' - The effect of hot and cold drinks on thermoregulation, perception, and performance: the role of the gut in thermoreception. This project was funded by the European Hydration Institute.

Furthermore, I presented my study, ‘The Influence of Positional Biomechanics on Gross Efficiency in Cycling’ at the World Congress of Cycling Science (WCCS) in Leeds, which was well received. I am currently working toward publishing the findings from this study.

I moved to Italy when I was younger to race and later to work within cycling. On returning from Italy in 2007, I began working for British Cycling as a coach, working with U16 and U18 regional and national level riders. I also began to work within Tri England as a cycling lead. Working closely with the regional elite academy in all areas of their training.
