Charlie Roberts
Dr Charlie Roberts is a lecturer in Sport & Exercise Nutrition at the University of Northampton. He currently leads and teaches on multiple nutrition and physiology modules from L4 through to L7. Charlie is research-active and has won funding to further support his research interests of nutrition for health and well-being of different populations, and is involved with multiple research projects related to nutrition support for caregivers of young athletes, eating disorders and disordered eating in athletes, health and well-being of university students, and interventions exploring the use of a variety of nutritional supplements on exercise performance. He is currently supervising one PhD student.
Charlie was awarded a doctoral scholarship to complete a PhD at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. His research aims to identify and analyse the challenges associated with delivering nutrition support to professional rugby players in New Zealand, to improve practitioner awareness and the level of support provided to the athletes. Prior to this, he achieved an MSc in Human Nutrition with specialisation in Sport & Exercise Nutrition at the University of Glasgow and a BSc in Applied Sport & Exercise Science at Northumbria University.
Alongside his work in academia, Charlie developed his practical skills both in conjunction with and separately from his PhD, working within many athletic disciplines and levels such youth, developmental academy, recreational amateur and professional athletes.
