TUNEC By Election 2024

Following our recent election process we are looking for four more members to join our existing committee to provide leadership and help to take the BDA Trade Union forward over the next three years.

You don’t need to be an existing trade union representative, enthusiasm and a commitment to providing the best possible support to our members is all we ask. We need to make sure that our committee is as representative as possible so if you meet the requirements of the vacant seats please put yourself forward.

The role offers the opportunity for personal and professional development with plenty of support from colleagues and the staff team.

There are four positions on your BDA Trade Union National Executive Committee (TUNEC) up for election for the period 2024-2027.

If you are ready to enhance TUNEC and oversee our work we’d love to hear from you. We are currently seeking nominations for the following seats: WalesMember representing those not employed in the NHS, LGBT+ worker, and BME worker.

Wales

With health being a devolved issue it is vitally important that we have a lay representative who is able to highlight issues in Wales. One of the most valuable aspects of the BDA Trade Union National Executive Committee is that it is able to pool the collective experiences of BDA members from across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Member representing those not employed in the NHS

While the majority of the BDA membership is based in the NHS the BDA Trade Union is proud to represent dietetic workers in a range of different sectors including higher education, industry, and many more. As a member representing those not employed in the NHS you can ensure that the full range of dietetic employment is considered in the BDA Trade Union strategy.

LGBT+ worker

While there have been a number of significant strides around LGBT+ rights in the workplace the BDA is conscious that those gains are only maintained through a vigilant and active trade union movement. The Trade Union movement recognises that the struggles for social and economic freedom are inextricably intertwined.

BME worker

There has been an increase in focus on issues relating to BME workers and the BDA is keen to ensure that there is a dedicated voice for such workers on the BDA Trade Union National Executive Committee. The BDA is proud to be affiliated to the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and to support the work of the TUC Black Workers Conference and the TUC Anti-Racism Taskforce.

The BDA Trade Union is at the forefront of fighting for the rights of dietetic workers.

If you would like to get involved in one of the above roles nominate yourself today.

Please note that to be eligible for nomination to the TUNEC, you must have been a full or associate member of the BDA for at least three months before the beginning of the election process. Throughout the election process, prospective candidates must remain full or associate employed members and continue to meet the requirements of the seat for which they are standing.

The closing date for receipt of completed nominations is 12pm Thursday 18 April 2024.
