Bruschetta is an Italian version of an open sandwich.
The word ‘bruschetta’ comes from the Italian word ‘bruciacchiare’ which means ‘to scorch’. The bread, normally ciabatta, is grilled, rubbed with garlic and drizzled with olive oil. Bruschetta are usually topped with fresh tomatoes and basil but a variety of other toppings can also be used.
