Strategic Vision: New AHP Public Health Strategic Framework

22 January 2025
by Lindsey Marston

The Allied Health Professions (AHP) Federation has unveiled its new UK-wide Public Health Strategic Framework for 2025-2030, setting a visionary path for the next five years, building on the previous framework. This framework aims to enhance the leading role of AHPs in public health across the UK.

Impact of the Previous Strategy

The previous UK AHP Public Health Strategic Framework (2019-2024) significantly advanced the integration of public health principles into AHP practice. It demonstrated notable progress in workforce education, impact measurement, and strategic leadership in prevention and tackling health inequalities. The comprehensive impact report highlights the achievements and lessons learned, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration and innovation.

With the NHS Long Term Plan highlighting the importance of prevention and tackling health inequalities, it's exciting to see the AHP Public Health Strategic Framework focus on how we as AHPs, play an important role in both improving the health of the public and reducing the strain on the NHS.

I am excited to see this lead to a greater voice for dietitians in Public Health spaces, but also for opportunities for dietitians in all settings to be able to influence the services they work in to shift towards a prevention mindset.

Summary of the new strategy

Building on past successes, the new framework focuses on developing on areas such as the AHP workforce, leadership and influencing in Public Health, wrapped within the themes of sustainable healthcare and addressing health inequalities. It aims to leverage the unique skills of AHPs to drive transformative changes in public health. For a detailed overview, provided by Linda Hindle OBE and our own Kyle Kennedy please refer to the summary report

This framework is essential to dietetic practice, offering dietitians a clear roadmap to integrate public health into their services and communities while inspiring and empowering practicing and student dietitians.
