NHS Education for Scotland have worked collaboratively with the Healthcare Support Workers (HCSW) Advisory Group, Associate Practice Educator Network and HCSW Education Network, on the development on a new national recommended education programme which aims to support HCSWs involved in medicines administration and can be used in conjunction with local board level education/training to support the implementation of the Framework for Administration of Medicines by Level 3 and 4 HCSWs in Scotland.
They are delighted to announce the launch of the ‘Promoting Effective Medicines Administration Practice (PEMAP)’ programme which is now live and can be accessed on Turas Learn.
PEMAP comprises learning modules, the collation of a folder of evidence through completion of activities and reflective learning and competency assessment through direct observation of skills. HCSWs undertaking PEMAP are supported by a nominated supervisor who will be a registered healthcare practitioner and will engage with them throughout their learning.
All HCSWs who will be involved in medicines administration and undertaking the PEMAP education programme, and registered practitioners who will be supporting learners through the programme are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new programme, and the supporting resources which include FAQs, learner guide and supervisor guide.
NES are hosting a launch event for the new programme, which will be held on Thursday 14 December 2023, 12.00 - 13.00 via MS Teams. For further details read the flyer, available here, and register for a place here - the closing date to register is 24 November 2023.
