Like Instagram and ready to get started with a professional account?
Our project partners The Akkermansia Company provided the BDA with funding to offer up to 50 free places on a new 6-week course, starting on 11 September 2023.

We are prioritising places for volunteers on BDA specialist groups, branches, boards and committees.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand what social media is and how different platforms work
  • Be more confident to create social media content including infographics, short videos and messaging
  • Be more confident to identify and respond to social media trends
  • Understand how to present themselves professionally in an engaging way
  • Know how to cope with negative feedback
  • Be aware of time saving ways to plan, create and share content
  • Be aware of how to apply key regulations, codes and guidance documents to your social media presence
  • Reflect on how to apply an evidence-based approach in social media
  • Understanding and acting on analytics

The format:

Over 6 weeks, delegates will receive training via our dedicated team every Monday from 7.30-9.00pm

All sessions will be led by an expert social media trainer, with some guest speakers on regulatory topics and some input from existing dietitian ambassadors - including this year's BDA Social Media Influencer of the Year Cristian Costas Battle.

There will also be an optional facilitated peer-group opportunity every Thursday evening with Azmina Govindji, to discuss the week’s exercises and get into the content more deeply.

Delegates will access all the meeting links, resources, worksheets and recordings from the dedicated digital training hub to be hosted on the BDA Learning Zone.

The requirements:

We want to offer this training to dietitians, and dietetic support workers, who volunteer for the BDA and will use Instagram to reach the public with engaging, evidence-based information.

We’d like you to:

  • Be eager to get started – with our support
  • Be available to attend live sessions on Mondays (training) and Thursdays (peer-led)*
  • Have access to smartphone/tablet /computer which will run the Instagram app and Zoom
  • Consider helping the BDA with content for our social media platforms after the course has closed

* Recordings will be available of the Monday evening sessions only. While we understand that occasionally life events may get in the way of attendance, our input is designed to be delivered live so you won’t get the best from the training by just watching catch-ups and missing the peer sessions.
