Speakers

  • Professor Nicola Carey, University of the Highlands and Islands will be presenting on National evaluation of supplementary prescribing by dietitians (TraDip study): interim findings

Nicola is Professor of Health Services Research, and Head of the Centre for Rural Health Sciences at the University of the Highlands and Islands. Nicola is a qualified nurse with over 25 years teaching and curriculum experience in clinical and academic settings at several UK institutes and in the US.

Nicola is Chair for the Association of Prescribers and committee member for the International Collaboration for Community Health Nursing Research.  Prior to joining UHI Nicola was Lead for the Long-Term Conditions and Ageing Cluster, and Reader in Long Term Conditions at the University of Surrey.

Since 2005 Nicola has been involved in numerous projects evaluating the implementation of non-medical prescribing, most recently leading an NIHR funded project exploring Dietitian Supplementary Prescribing and Independent Prescribing by Therapeutic Radiographers, the findings from which have provided support for revised prescribing regulation.

  • Dr Bernadette Rae, Associate Professor, London Southbank University will be presenting on her PhD Thesis 'What are the practices and experiences of non-medical prescribers in the UK?'

Dr Bernadette Rae is Associate Professor and lead of the V300 independent and supplementary prescribing module at London South Bank University. She has a master’s in health and has completed her PhD, investigating the practice and experience of prescribing practitioners in the United Kingdom. She has been a qualified nurse for 34 years, an independent prescriber since 2006, and has worked in elderly care, rheumatology, oncology, GP practices and a city centre walk-in centre.  Bernadette is in her second term sitting on the Joint Formulary Committee which gives her understanding of how the BNF is managed and how the drug monographs are written.

  • Nicki Ruddock, Advanced Dietetic Practitioner, Leicester will present on ‘The person-centredness of dietitian prescribing for those with CKD: the patient perspective’
