Subject Matter Expert – Enhanced, Advanced and First Contact Practice Project for the BDA. Tanya Rumney has worked with the BDA on several workforce projects to support the implementation of enhanced and advanced level roles. Alongside her BDA role, Tanya works in the NHS as the professional lead for a large dietetic service based in Chester.
Ella is an experienced critical care dietitian with over 25 years of professional and strategic leadership at both local and national levels. She served as the professional lead for dietetics with NHS Elect on the AHP Critical Care Capability Framework and currently acts as a subject matter expert for the British Dietetic Association for two major workforce projects. In addition, she is pursuing a PhD focused on identifying barriers and challenges in optimising nutritional intake and rehabilitation strategies for ICU survivors.
Dr Alison Culkin is a consultant Dietitian in intestinal rehabilitation at St Mark’s Hospital where she has worked since 1998. She specialises in severe intestinal failure, intestinal rehabilitation and home parenteral nutrition (HPN). She completed her PhD in 2010 investigating the manipulation of amino acids (glutamine and taurine) in HPN on patient outcomes as well as patient knowledge and behaviour change. In addition, she investigated the immune status of patients requiring HPN specifically their dendritic cell and gut homing lymphocyte function.She has written chapters on intestinal failure for several textbooks, papers and abstracts and lectures nationally and internationally. She is the course lead for the PENG clinical update course and has represented Dietitians on national and international committees. In March 2017 she became the first registered dietitian to qualify as a non-medical prescriber and is chair of the BDA Prescribers sub group.
