A CPD session with support of the Paediatric Neonatal subgroup in an introduction to Neonatal care, if you have an interest or you are new to this area. We will also have one of the Paediatric Module students presenting her dissertation.
Holly Byatt RD MSc, Neonatal Dietitian and Sara Clarke, Lead Neonatal Network Dietitian, West Midlands Neonatal Network and Chair Neonatal Dietitians Interest Group - NDiG will present an overview on neonatal nutrition followed by Karen King, Advanced Neonatal Dietitian at Cambridge Universities NHS Foundation Trust will provide an summary of the HEE modules.
About Sara - Lead Neonatal Network Dietitian since 2014 and module lead for BDA MSc module Neonatal Nutrition. Her areas of interest are standardisation of neonatal nutritional intervention, guideline writing, Neonatal nutrition education for all staff and parents, Breast milk, inc early colostrum. Sara's session will focus on initiation and maintenance of breast milk supply in the NNU.
About Karen - Lead Dietitian on a busy territory unit with surgery supporting preterm and term infants. Areas of interest include supporting infants who have had neonatal surgery and education of staff working on neonatal units. She has been part of the team who have developed the HEE online learning modules on neonatal nutrition. Karen's session will cover the consideration of the role of the dietitian on neonatal units as experts in nutritional care and a look at the training and education opportunities for dietitians on neonatal nutrition
Nishti Udeh masters student from the paediatric modules will present How does perception and experience affect UK dietitians’ attitudes towards the implementation of mindfulness in practice and perceived need for mindfulness education?
About Nishti - Nishti is a registered dietitian with the HCPC and the National Board of Health, Denmark and Faroe Islands. She graduated in 2011 from the Uni of Surrey and knew very early on that paediatrics was going to be her career path. Nishti started out her career working with children with type 1 diabetes, food allergies and prem babies. Currently, she is working in a mental health hospital covering the eating disorder ward and PICU. She also has a freelance business where she sees both children and parents for dietetic consultations and/or mindfulness-related consultations. Nishti decided to obtain a certificate as a mindfulness teacher in 2020 to help her bring holistic care to patient consultations.
