With ambitious net zero goals for the NHS, what can dietitians do about the carbon and plastic footprint of ACBS products?

Speakers

Ruth Chalke, Senior Specialist Prescribing Support Dietitian, South East London ICS

Ruth is a dietitian who has worked in the NHS for 10 years across a variety of specialisms, including Upper GI Surgery and currently, Prescribing Support across South East London. Ruth has had an interest in sustainability for a number of years; she co-leads the Nutrition & Dietetics Green Team (with Emma) and is a member of the Reducing Single-Use Plastics Working Group at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She is a Resource Officer for the British Dietetic Association’s Sustainable Diets Group, and last year wrote an article for Dietetics Today magazine, looking at the environmental impact of Oral Nutritional Supplement packaging.

Emma Illidge, Senior Specialist Paediatric Dietitian – Prescribing Support, South East London ICS

Emma is a paediatric prescribing support dietitian with a strong interest in paediatric food allergies as well as improving and developing service delivery across the NHS to provide safe, equitable and sustainable care. She co-leads the Nutrition & Dietetics Green Team (with Ruth). She has been working for the NHS as a paediatric dietitian for 6 years, 3 of which in prescribing support, after she relocated from South Africa where she worked in various areas of dietetics, including in the infant allergy formula industry.
