Calciphylaxis is a rare and severe condition mostly seen in people living with kidney disease and receiving dialysis. In this live webinar and Q&A session, Professor Smeeta Sinha, Consultant Nephrologist, Dr Emma Mcmullen, Consultant Dermatologist will discuss the pathophysiology, epidemiology, latest evidence, and give their expert insights around the diagnosis and clinical management of calciphylaxis. Chaired by Dr Sharon Huish, Renal Dietitian.

Dr Sharon Huish is an advanced practice dietitian and the service lead for the kidney dietetic service at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. She specialises in Chronic Kidney Disease related Mineral Bone Disorders (CKD-MBD); her PhD research investigated vitamin D metabolism in haemodialysis patients and her current research is exploring patient experiences of calciphylaxis. Sharon chairs the UK CKD-MBD Clinical Study Group and co-leads the rare disease group for calciphylaxis. Passionate about evidencing the value of dietetic prescribing and promoting research roles for dietitians; she is a committee member of British Dietetic Association (BDA) dietitian prescriber subgroup and supports research activity for the BDA Kidney Dietitian Specialist Group.

Calciphylaxis: Pathophysiology, epidemiology and evidence update with Professor Smeeta Sinha is a Consultant Nephrologist at Salford Royal Hospital, Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust and an Honorary Professor at the Manchester Academic Health Sciences Centre, University of Manchester. She specialises in chronic kidney disease (CKD), metabolic stone disease, glomerulonephritis, and vascular calcification. Her research primarily focuses on CKD-mineral bone disorder, with particular expertise in vascular calcification and calciphylaxis. Professor Sinha is an internationally recognised key opinion leader in calciphylaxis and has played a key role in developing and leading clinical trials for this condition. In addition, she serves as the National Clinical Director for Renal Medicine at NHS England, providing strategic leadership across renal networks throughout the UK.

Calciphylaxis: diagnosis, differentials & wound care with Emma McMullen is trained in Manchester and began her Dermatology career in Salford in 2003. She has been practising as a full-time NHS consultant since 2010 and is currently the Acute Lead for the Greater Manchester Dermatology Programme.  Her main interests are Calciphylaxis, Hidradenitis Suppurativa, Acute/Inpatient Dermatology (including severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions), and Skin Cancer.  She is also actively involved in research and teaching at pre- and postgraduate levels.
