Learning outcomes

To understand the core elements to evidence based and effective treatments for body image issues. Identify barriers and possible solutions to effective treatment from both a psychology and dietetic perspective.

Speaker

Thomas is a registered Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapist (CBT) with the BABCP as well as a Highly Specialised Eating Disorders Dietitian with the BDA and HCPC. For over 20 years Thomas has been working in the NHS and/or Private sector with both adolescents and adults in the fields of Eating Disorders, Personality Disorder and Complex Trauma as a clinician, psychology supervisor and in service development. Treating Body Image dysphoria and low Self Esteem is intrinsic work to all these conditions and has led to this area of psychology becoming his special interest. His recognition in this area has made him a regular contributor in the national press, on podcasts as well as presenting at International and National Psychiatry and Psychology conferences on body image and eating disorder treatment.

Thomas has additional training and proficiency with Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Schema focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). He is also trained and practices the NICE (2017) recommended treatments for Eating Disorders: FBT-AN (Family Based Treatment for Anorexia Nervosa), CBT-E and MANTRA (Maudsley Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults).
