Diabetes Specialist Group - Dietetic Advice and Hybrid Closed Loop systems - What is best practice and what does the research tell us?

The National Children's and Young People's Diabetes 5 year delivery plan (2020-2025) includes aims to ensure equitable access to technology and education and the NICE Technology Appraisal, Hybrid closed loop (HCL) systems for managing blood glucose levels in type 1 diabetes (2023), recommends HCL systems as an option for children and young people with type 1 diabetes.

This webinar will share best practice for Dietitians supporting patients using these systems. Dietitians working for companies providing HCL Systems will discuss their individual algorithms and latest evidence.

Speakers

Emma Marcus, Senior Training and Education Specialist UK&I | Diabetes, Medtronic

Emma qualified as a State Registered Dietitian in 1996, and has over 15 years of experience in the NHS, working in primary, secondary and tertiary settings, and with both paediatric and adult teams. She joined Medtronic in 2012 as a Technical Consultant, and moved to Training and Education 8 years ago. She is currently Senior Training and Education Specialist, with a lead in patient education, and the MiniMed™ 780G system.

Kathryn Fraser RD, Diabetes Product and Clinical Education Lead - UK and Ireland

Kathryn Fraser is a registered diabetes dietitian and the Diabetes Product and Clinical Education Lead at Air Liquide Healthcare UK/ ROI. Air Liquide is the UK and ROI distributor of the Tandem t:slim X2 insulin pump which offers, with Dexcom G6 and G7, the Control IQ advanced hybrid closed loop system. Kathryn has extensive experience working with people with type 1 diabetes, insulin pump therapy and hybrid closed loop whilst working in the NHS and industry.

Candice Ward, Training and Outreach Manager – CamDiab

Candice is a specialist diabetes educator with more than 20 years’ experience working in challenging and high-paced healthcare environments supporting patients manage their chronic condition and healthcare professionals provide the best possible diabetes care.
