BDA Trade Union Rep Stage 1 Training July 2024

Thank you for volunteering to be a BDA rep. This training will equip you with all the skills and knowledge you need to take on this rewarding role.

This training is aimed at new BDA Trade Union Reps who have not received formal training and as a refresher for those reps who last received training before 2019. Please note that if you have completed BDA Trade Union Stage 1 training since 2019, you are up to date with your BDA TU training needs and do not need to apply for this training session. 

The training will take place at the BDA Office, 3rd Floor, Interchange Place, 151-165 Edmund Street, Birmingham, B3 2TA, on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 16 July (12:00-16:00) - allows time for travel in the morning
  • Wednesday 17 July (09:30-16:00)
  • Thursday 18 July (09:30-16:00)
  • Friday 19 July (09:30-13:00) - early finish for traveling home 

We will cover:

  • The Reps’ Role
  • The Structure of the BDA
  • Facility time for union representatives
  • Exploring your grievance procedure
  • Disciplinary cases
  • The Equality Act 2010
  • Meeting with management
  • Health and Safety
  • Staff Side and The Joint Negotiating Committee

This is a course hosted for the BDA by Manchester College. This training course is accredited by the National Open College Network (NOCN) and on completion will give you recognition as a TUC-accredited rep.

The BDA will arrange suitable accommodation for all attendees. Please do not book your accomodation. However, please book your own travel, this will be reimbursed after you have attended the course.
