Jess will use her academic research and lived experience to talk about current theories of autism. She will explain why some commonly held beliefs about autism are inaccurate. The role of the nervous system in autism will be discussed and a neuro-affirming understanding of autism will be provided. Following the talk, attendees will be able to take the knowledge gained to reflect upon and identify steps to provide neuro-affirming approaches when supporting autistic people.

Jess Garner, Founder of GROVE Neurodivergent Mentoring & Education. Jess is a late identified Autistic & ADHD person and parent to Autistic, ADHD, PDA children. Prior to setting up GROVE, Jess was a secondary school teacher and advised on provision for autistic students & whole school training around autistic experience. Jess's company GROVE uses the Neurodiversity Paradigm to provide neuro-affirming support to enable autistic young people to develop an authentic, positive self-identity and to provide them with a safe space to be in community.
