Please find the full job description here.
The Selection Committee is appointed by the Board of Directors in accordance with the Selection By-laws. Their role is to lead the recruitment process for directors and other senior appointments to BDA governance roles. The committee’s work is to interview candidates; undertake skills and competency-based analysis for advertised roles; and, make recommendations on appointments to the Board. The appointment of directors and the Chair are then subject to approval by members at the AGM.
Normally, the Selection Committee will consist of up to eight people, the majority of whom will be BDA members. The Selection Committee will include a representative from each of the home nations and recently has included a representative from the BDA EDI Committee. The Selection Committee will usually be chaired by a lay member. The Chair and CEO of the BDA will normally attend committee meetings and may take part in interviews.
Usually, three or four members of the Selection Committee will take part in any recruitment round. Interview processes may use virtual meeting technology where appropriate but face-to-face interviews may also be used where practical.
There are usually several Company Director roles to be recruited each year, and potentially other senior roles including Chair designate and Country Board Chairs.
The appointment process will take place as and when vacancies arise and are usually planned out in the Selection Committee workplan. However, there are times when vacancies arise out of the usual cycle that also need to be recruited to. It is likely there will be a commitment of around four to five days required during the year for interviews and additional time for committee meetings (at least four per year) and preparation. Additional time may be required for other meetings and/or training. Meetings of the committee are held virtually.
Committee members are appointed for an initial term of three years with the opportunity to serve a maximum of two terms of office. Members of the committee will be invited to stand down in rotation, to ensure continuity but also provide succession planning.
All actual expenses incurred will be reimbursed at a daily rate of £200 (inclusive). This will include the time taken in attending meetings, reading papers and recruiting/ interviewing.
The full job description can be downloaded and the bylaws of the committee are also available here.
