In collaboration with Public Health England and the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition, NICE published guidance on vitamin D in relation to COVID-19.
Bringing together the latest published literature, existing national guidance and policy, and advice from specialists working in the NHS across the UK, this guideline covers vitamin D use in the context of COVID-19. It is for adults, young people and children in hospitals and community settings.
The guidance supports current government advice for everyone to take a 10 microgram (400IU) vitamin D supplement every day throughout the autumn and winter.
The panel also concluded that there is currently not enough evidence to support taking vitamin D solely to prevent or treat COVID-19.
